The OOPS
for Cappellini

The concept of genuine connection without technical devices is inspired by a nostalgic and idealized dream of the past—times before the internet and smartphones

In a digital age where our senses are often consumed by screens, ‘OOPS’ focuses on the sense of touch and physical interaction. A universally comprehensible language and an unconventional method to connect with new individuals. Shifting shared seating from just being physically close toa shared experience, transforming it into a more profound and meaningful interaction

Although created to help solve a severe problem and with a serious meaning behind the design choices, the OOPS doesn’t want to “lecture” the user.

The OOPS aims to bring change through experience in a light-hearted, playful way

This element of surprise is also the origin of the name OOPS

The design feature is a unique air-filled core element that connects
both seats

Every user’s action influences the one next to them, creating an immediate physical connection among individuals.

The design aims for the immediate, surprising and shared experiece of the interactive movement, prompting eye contact and, despite potential initial awkwardness, create a platform for initiating conversations
