L.A.P. III BASE – GROUP B - Day 1098
“...fly me to the moon, dancing with the stars...” echoes Frank’s voice from the speakers. “Fly me to the moon,” I whisper softly, sinking into my chair, its worn-out surface enveloping me like an old friend.
Glancing out the window, I’m met with a familiar sight: Earth, a distant blue orb floating peacefully in the vast emptiness of space. Oh, how I ache for Earth in moments like these. Tapping my foot to the song’s rhythm, “please let it be true,” I’m swept away by memories as I run my fingers over the warm, uneven surface of the lava stone. It’s a sensation both comforting and grounding, reminding me of the tangible reality of my surroundings…
Isn’t it curious how imperfections can become cherished treasures?Living in this meticulously crafted lunar base, where everything is “optimized for perfect living,” I’ve grown fond of these little bumps and holes.
As a child, this very chair fueled my dreams of lunar exploration, of bounding weightlessly across the moon’s surface. Now, as a pioneer in this lunar habitat, it serves as the physical reminder of my life back on Earth. Despite the distance, it’s moments like these, nestled in my humble chair, that bring me closest to the home I left behind. The metal plate structure serves as the “skeleton” and forms the framework for attaching lava stone panels to the sides. Each metal plate supports three lava stones stacked vertically, with their weathered surface facing outward. This arrangement is repeated along the entire length of both sides of the metal plate.
Rope loops, reminiscent of those found on astronauts’ spacesuits, are incorporated for both ease of use and to help maintain the chair’s shape.
